Writers in the Stars

The Writers in the Stars Advanced levels of English

Who is the greatest playwright of all time? What happens when Oscar Wilde, Ernest Hemingway, William Shakespeare and Mary Shelley meet in Heaven and begin to argue about which of them is the most celebrated writer back on Earth. The Writers in the Stars is a light hearted look at some of the greatest stories and plays in the English language. The audience is taken on a journey through the centuries as the writers in the stars perform scenes from their masterpieces and try to convince us and each other which of them is the greatest writer of all time.

PastPort (Intermediate OR Advanced levels of English)

Emigration. A subject that is very close to the heart of every Irish person. The Irish are spread out all over the world and we are now celebrated as the people who helped to build America and even England. But we were not always seen in such a favourable light. In this play, we follow an Irish Busker who is travelling around Europe on a train that travels through time. Starting in the year 2050 and a fragmented EU has made travel difficult, we then travel to the 1940’s, 1880’s, 1970’s and many more and explore the musical diversity to be found in Europe and how easy it was at different times to move around the continent. Relevent today? I certainly think so. Written by Chris Moran who very successfully wrote the ‘Unknown Irish’ for us. A show we are very excited about.

Mythological Magic

Mythological Magic (Beginners level of English)

Irish Mythology. Leprechauns are the most famous of our fairies but the image that people have of the Leprechaun is not true. He is actually the ‘Con-Man’ of the Irish fairy world. We look at him and many of his lesser known relatives. We also take a look at William Butler Yeats who was a famous Irish Writer who believed in the fairy world and also tried regularly to contact the dead. We will try to get the students to help us contact the spirit of W.B. Yeats using a Seance just as Yeats himself would have done. Combine all this with plenty of music and interaction. A great time in store.

You can't put a value on the experience for everyone. To bring native speakers to the students and show them why they have to put in the effort to learn English. And then for them to enjoy it and look for more. Wonderful

Easy to comprehend English but also challenging language.

The workshops were a great success. As well as watching the show, they students were encouraged to speak. If only I could get them to speak so clearly in class. Excellent idea
